LaZertes 3rd Annual Tri for Cancer in support of the Cops for Cancer Program and the Canadian Cancer Society. The event was a tremendous success this year, with all 27 teams completing the course and $18,020.85 being raised for the Canadian Cancer Society. Thank you to all the students and staff members who contributed to this exciting event. Safeway Job Pod 2008 Interested in furthering your career at Safeway? Safeway has 100’s of job possibilities. The primary purpose of the evening will be to learn about the different career opportunities at Safeway. Dress for Success Warm weather and summer fashions have arrived. Please remember that LaZerte has a dress code. Dress for success at all times. If you choose to dress inappropriately, you can expect that the dress code will be enforced. Remember to cover up!! No muscle shirts, no plunging necklines, no short skirts or short shorts. May Bus Passes Bus passes will be sold from Wednesday, April 30th to Monday, May 5th. If paying by cash or cheque pick up your pass in the Resource Room. Students paying by Visa or Debit card must go to the accounts window. No post-dated cheques will be accepted. You must have ID. Grade 12 Yearbook Profiles Attention Class of 2008, want to leave your imprint in the 2008 Yearbook? Well here is your chance. In the Yearbook each graduate will have a small biography beside their picture. You, the graduate, are required to supply this biography. How? Log on to one of the computers in the school’s computer labs or library. Click on the “Graduate Yearbook Profile” and follow the steps. (Forms in the Library and Counseling) I.B. STUDENTS CAS OPPORTUNITY This summer, the 2008 Canoe Polo World Championships are being held at Hawrelak Park in Edmonton from July 24th – 26th. Over 400 athletes and other visitors from 26 countries will be here to compete in this exciting sport. Volunteers are needed to help with everything from construction of wharfs, serving as translators, helping in artistic areas by making vinyl signs, etc. This would be an excellent and fun way for students to fulfill CAS hours. The jobs are numerous and there are opportunities to volunteer in June and July. The winning teams will go on to play in the finals on Wednesday, May 7th. The winning team of the finals will play the Teacher team on Thursday, May 8th. Spectators are welcome. Women’s Rugby Krispy Kreme Donuts The Women’s Rugby team will be taking orders for Krispy Kreme donuts on Thursday, May 1st at lunch in the Atrium. Come and pre-order a dozen original glazed donuts for only $8.00. On Monday, May 5th, at lunch in the Atrium there will also be individual donut sales for $0.75 ea, while supplies last. Health Sciences 20/30 and Printing Services Internship
Are you interested in a career as a nurse, doctor, physiotherapist or any other discipline in the health sciences? NorQuest College, Capital Health and Edmonton Public Schools have teamed up to offer the first Health Sciences 20/30 course, which will allow you to begin your training in the health sciences field while you earn 10 CTS credits. Classes run through the day in
July and August, tuition and course materials are free, and you can qualify for post-secondary scholarships!
NorQuest College and Edmonton Public Schools are also offering an internship program for students interested in entering the printing services or graphic design fields after high school. This program allows you to earn high school credits while gaining hands-on experience in the printing industry -- this is a great chance for students in Communications Technology to apply their learning in the field!
