Milton Ezra LaZerte, 1885-1975

Milton. E. LaZerte had experience teaching, working as a school principal, and lecturing at the University of Alberta, before he was appointed the first Director of the School of Education at the University of Alberta when the School was established in 1929.M.E. LaZerte continued in his position of leadership when the School became a College in 1943, and he became the Dean of Education when the College became a Faculty in 1945, a position he held until his retirement in 1950.

M.E. LaZerte was very interested in the development of mechanical tools for educational purposes, and in 1929 he created plans for the development of a problem cylinder. Milton E. LaZerte was named Professor Emeritus in 1950. Following his retirement from the University of Alberta, M.E. LaZerte was Dean of Education at the University of Winnipeg, from 1955-1958. He also served on Edmonton's City Council, from 1960-1962, and the Edmonton Public School Board, from 1962-1971, prior to his death in 1975.
