Scholarship Handbook

Academic Achievement Recognition

First, Second and Third Quarter Honour Roll Recipients

Students obtaining an average of 80% or higher in ALL courses taken each quarter will recieve a letter acknowledging their achievement.

Year End Honour Award Recipients

Students meeting Alexander Rutherford Scholarship criteria and/or receiving an 80% in their top 25 credits including English and any two other core courses will recieve an honours certificate for the school year.

Grade 12 Honour Cord Recipients

Students meeting Alexander Rutherford Criteria (using teacher awarded 3rd quarter marks and/or final diploma marks) will wear an Honour Cord at the Commencement Ceremony.

The Top Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12 Student

The top student for each grade will be selected using criteria set by Edmonton Public Schools

School Awards

Note: Please check the announcements, post-secondary calendars, scholarship websites, bulletins and counseling office for scholarships and awards information. Other universities and colleges are now offering scholarships based on Grade 11 final marks. Please check their websites.

Application forms must be submitted to the awards board before June 1st for all school awards. Application forms are available in Student Success Central.

Lifetouch and intergold Citizenship Awards - Each year, awards are given to a Grade 10 and 11 student who meet the following criteria: are actively involved and committed to school and community activities, provide leadership through participation or example, put the interests of the group before self, cooperate with peers and are respected by teachers and staff. Recipients will be awarded certificates and an engraved award.

The M.E LaZerte Awards Board Scholarship - recognizes a student who has overcome adversity, has completed his/her third year of high school at M.E LaZerte and is continuing with other educational programming. The scholarship will consist of a certificate and a cash award of $500

Humanities Excellence Award – plaque presented to the student with the highest combined marks in Social Studies 30 and English 30.

Athletics Awards – presented to the top male and female at each grade level.

Thom Elniski Memorial Scholarship - A cash award of $750.00, a certificate and an engraved nameplate to be placed on a plaque to remain at M.E.LaZerte will be prsented yearly to a student who exemplifies the spirit demonstrated by Mr. Elniski throughout his life and work with young people within the school and community. The scholarship recipient is to use the money to assist with his or her post-secondary expenses and it is hoped that one day said recipient can "pay it forward". This was one of Mr. Elniski's principles in life.

Science Excellence Award – plaque presented to the student with the highest combined average in Biology 30, Chemistry 30 and Physics 30.

Roger Ambrosie Memorial Scholarship - $1000 for tuition in a post-secondary mechanics program and a plaque are given to the top grade 12 mechanics student.

Kinsmen Club of Edmonton Achievement Award for Community Service – One $500 scholarship is presented to an M. E. LaZerte student who has provided outstanding service to his/her school and community. The student must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution in the fall.

Service Awards

Service Awards recognize students who have contributed service to school activities and organizations geared towards the betterment of the school community within a single school year.

Outside Awards

Governor General’s Bronze Medal
A medal is presented annually to the graduating student who achieves the highest academic standing. (Based on Alexander Rutherford Scholarship criteria in grade 11 and 12)
