what we offer

Fitness Centre and Program Orientations
Our qualified staff will give you an orientation to the Fitness Centre (rules and regulations) if you haven't already completed one in your physical education class (all Gr. 10's receive and orientation in Sept.).

Once the initial orientation is complete, we will show you proper form and use of all the equipment.

The best part about all of this is, if you forget how to use it we are always around to refresh your memory.

Fitness/ Health Appraisals
Our Fitness and Wellness Consultant, Mrs. Moon is qualified to complete various fitness/health appraisals (ex. Body composition, aerobic capacity, strength testing).

Program Design
So you want to train for soccer, improve your leg strength or tone your body? Whatever your goals, whether sport specific or more health related, we will take the time to speak with you one-on-one. Once we have found out what your goals are, how much time you are willing to dedicate, what you like to do, and a few other details we can develop a program that will help you reach your goals.

Athletic Therapy
We provide students with pre-game / pre-practice taping. During contact sports (football and rugby) we provide side-line athletic therapy services to school athletes.

There are also injury prevention and injury rehabilitation resources available from the Fitness Centre.

Sport Performance
Students have the opportunity to learn about and receive instruction about various sport specific training principles and nutrition factors. For example: Plyometrics, anaerobic training, Olympic lifting, etc.

Certain athletes are able to complete a Sport Performance credit once they have completed a certain number of practice hours and passed a written exam.

Physical Education Classes
All levels of physical education classes complete a fitness unit in the Fitness Centre. These students will learn about human anatomy (bones and muscles) and learn various exercises in the centre. This is a great opportunity for students to become familiar with the centre, get to know the staff and perhaps develop interest in personal fitness/health.

Students have the opportunity to enrol in a Fitness Class (Fitness 20 or 30) in which they learn more about the human body, how it adapts to exercise, training principles and program design. You will develop personal fitness/health goals and then design a personal program to reach those goals. Your teacher and Fitness Centre staff will review your program to ensure that you have included all the necessary components. You will have the opportunity to have your body composition (% fat) and other physical measurements completed so that you can compare the "before you" to the "after you".

Lifestyle Counselling
Not everyone wants to come to the Fitness Centre to use the equipment. And that is fine by us! We are here to provide all students and staff with resources and tools to help them live a healthy lifestyle.

We can provide nutritional advice, active living ideas, recreational planning, healthy relationship information, smoking cessation programs, etc.

Extracurricular Programs
Throughout the year additional fitness seminars and fitness related programs will be offered. For example: Yoga, Healthy relationships, Fit Chicks Club, Spin Bike Classes, etc.

We like to bring in activities and information that appeal to the students, so make a request and we will bring you what you ask for!

Wide Range of Equipment
This Centre is one of the largest and most comprehensive in Edmonton Area High Schools. Please see "equipment" link to have a look at the equipment available to you
