Digital Arts and Graphics Design

Digital Arts - Graphic Design 10

Prerequisite: none
You are the creator, the designer, the story teller, and the presenter. Your audience is vast, your medium limitless. You are sound and colour, music and words, art in motion, animation and video. This introductory course places your passion for everything creative into our unique and highly specialized Digital Arts - Graphic Design Program. Students will explore graphic art and design, commercial art, digital imaging and publishing, and interactive multimedia.

Digital Publishing 1
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
This course will explore the processes of page design and layout. Using composition software, you will learn to apply design concepts to the development of creative page layout designs. You will learn to import and prepare various components and incorporate them into the final page layout. You will gain working knowledge of the tools and features of composition and layout software packages.

Digital Publishing 2

Prerequisite: Digital Publishing 1
This course explores the importance of digital page composition in modern print production. The course will cover advanced topics in photojournalism, digital camera composition / manipulation and desktop publishing.   



Photography 2
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
In this course students choose an area of specialization or personal interest. They then create a photo-essay that consists of a predetermined number of color photographs. Students approach this project thematically, incorporating in it the areas of lighting, composition, and presentation techniques.

Computer Assisted Drafting 1
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
This course will allow you to explore the creative side of the drafting industry by creating meaningful models, designs and drafts using industry caliber C.A.D. software. You will be prepared to pursue a variety of careers with valuable skills.

Computer Assisted Drafting 2

Prerequisite: C.A.D. 1
This course will further expand student’s knowledge of design and modeling and will introduce them to advanced features of AutoCAD. Students will create mechanical and architectural designs. There are thousands of careers that require C.A.D. trained people … be one of them.

2D/3D Architectural / Interior Design 1
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
Do you have creative ideas and enjoy decorating your space? If so, then this course is for you. Students will explore the areas of architectural and interior design by using various techniques and software.

2D/3D Design 2: Architectural / Interior Design 2
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Comm. Tech. 20 or 2D/3D Design 1
The processes of planning and programming will be explored through residential and commercial projects. Planning concepts, selection of appropriate interior finishes and application of relevant codes and bylaws will be covered. Presentation of design solutions will take the form of plans, elevations, and sample boards. Students will deliver oral presentations to explain and defend their design solutions.

Technical Design and Drafting 1
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
This course builds on the C.A.D. skills learned in C.A.D. 1 to produce technical drawings. Students will learn to draw orthographic, sectioned view, auxiliary view and pictorial drawings. They will also expand their knowledge of AutoCAD by applying the basic functions and more advanced functions of AutoCAD in the preparation of more complex drawings and designs.

Technical Design and Drafting 2

This course is an opportunity to show your flair for creativity in design while demonstrationg your understanding of architectual principles.  Believe it or not, buildings have style and structure and it is a talent to blend the two.

Web Design 1

Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
If you’re creative with an eye for colour and design and are looking to turn your interests and natural abilities into a great career, Web Design could be perfect for you. A well designed website is a must have for any successful business. As a skilled web designer, you’ll be in demand for your expertise in producing highly usable, visually effective websites.

Web Design 2

If you enjoyed web design 1 wait until you see what Web Design 2 has to offer.  This course allows one to use technology to stretch the imagination to serve specific clients.  Wild imaginations welcome.

Digital Design 1

Prerequisite: Communication Technology 10
 Employing industry-standard tools, you are introduced to the concepts and principles that underlie 3D image design and creation. The intent of this course is to allow you to experience the basics of object design, modeling and texturing. Digital Design 1 is a prerequisite for any student embarking on a career in game design.

Digital Design 2
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Computer Animation 10 or Digital Design 1
This course will expand on the knowledge from Digital Design 1 with a focus on animation and graphic design. Students will use the latest programs, including 3D max, Flash, and other Adobe software to produce a variety of projects. You will learn key skills to help you pursue a career in the many areas of digital design and animation.

Audio-Visual Production 1
3 Credits
Prerequisite: None

 This Course will introduce the student to the various aspects of studio based television production.  These will include but not be limited to; Television system and formats, studio camera theory and operation, video and audio control room operation and protocols, video playback and recording formats and operation of broadcast grade video equipment.  The student will participate in several in-studio productions either as a broadcast equipment operator or on-air talent.

Audio-Visual Production 2
3 Credits
Prerequisite: Communication Technology 20
This course is for students who want to explore this creative industry. Students learn hands on, using industry-related technology and equipment. Course topics include editing, lighting, and scriptwriting. Students are taught about cinematography, camera techniques, and postproduction. Throughout the course students compile work they have created into a portfolio.
