Building The Trades

Trades, it’s more than pounding nails and fixing cars.  Trades are about you making things happen – working with cool tools, using heavy equipment – you’re doing it!  If you are curious about what’s up with the trades…this course is going to show you the real deal.  No more talk – just do it. Students in this course should not also take Construction 10 Introductory.

Construction Technology 10 Introductory
6 Credits
Prerequisite: None
When you hear the term “hands on”, we mean it!  Students will learn the basic processes involved in a building and manufacturing system.  From hand tools to power tools, students will complete 5 projects over the length of the course in either of the two fully equipped labs.  You’ll be amazed with what you take home to impress your family!

Construction Technology 20 Intermediate

Project Management               CON1120              
This intermediate course covers topics in the area of building and manufacturing systems. With knowledge and experience gained in Introductory Construction Technologies students will be able to advance into more complex projects such as small frame buildings and the completion of various designs of furniture.  Patio furniture, book cases, coffee tables and cabinets with doors and drawers as well as wood forming and carving are offered in this course.

Construction Technology 30 Advanced
5 Credits
Prerequisites:   Basic Tools and Materials - CON1010, Project Management - CON1120

At the 30 level the students will expand their knowledge of cabinet making and building construction.  In cabinet making the emphasis will be on creating fine furniture using hardwood or softwood with a focus on joinery; finishing while the building construction component will look at more advanced building.

Girl Power - Furniture Building

Prerequisite: None
Do you have a desire to build your own furniture?  Do you have a flare for design?  This introductory course introduces young women to the wonderful world of design and woodworking.  In a non-intimidating environment, students will touch on the basics of safe woodworking while learning about the elements of design and the planning process.  Students will have input into the function and design of multiple projects.  Learn a lot and have fun at the same time!
