Your adventure in learning French begins here! In this course you will learn basic expressions and vocabulary related to introductions, descriptions of family and friends, preferences, sport and leisure activities, clothing, food, school, and select holidays and celebrations. You will develop listening and speaking skills, gain an understanding of French pronunciation and spelling, as well as basic sentence structure and grammatical concepts in order to read and write the French language. You will also gain a cultural understanding of la francophonie that will allow you to communicate in French while traveling and to pursue an interesting career.

Your adventure in learning French continues here! In this course you will learn basic expressions and vocabulary related to describing personal interests and hobbies, friendships and relationships, interactions at social gatherings, leisure activities, restaurant menus, school events and traditions, as well as tasks and responsibilities related to school work. You will continue to develop listening and speaking skills, and improve pronunciation, spelling, basic sentence structure and grammatical concepts in order to read and write the French language. You will also continue to explore the culture of la francophonie that will allow you to communicate in French while traveling and provide a possible career advantage.

French 30-3Y AB IB

Your adventure in learning French goes on!  In this course you will continue to broaden your vocabulary related to daily routines, personal image, clothing styles, home responsibilities, childhood memories, school life, feelings, emotions, tourist destinations, travel, weather conditions and much more!  You will continue to develop listening and speaking skills, improve pronunciation and learn more complex sentence structures and grammatical concepts in order to prepare for the Ab initio IB exams.  You will continue to investigate aspects of Francophone cultures and people locally, nationally and around the world.

French 10-9Y (IB Preparation)

Prerequisite: French 9
Continue your journey in French so that you can fully understand and express yourself in this romance language. In this course you will continue to develop your language amd vocabulary skills and cultural knowledge as you study the themes of activities, shopping, vacations and fine arts.

French 20-9Y IB
5 Credits
Prerequisite: 70% in French 10-9Y (IB Preparation)
Emphasis is placed on all four language skills—listening and reading comprehension and oral and written production. In this course you will study the themes of senses and feelings, close friends, fads and fashions, consumerism and outdoor life. You will also deepen your understanding of Francophone cultures.

French 30-9Y IB
5 Credits
Prerequisite: French 20-9Y IB

In this senior level course, you will further develop your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills with a focus on communication.  You will review and expand your vocabulary and grammatical knowledge and use it to produce oral and written projects.  You will also further develop your understanding of Francophone cultures.  Familiar topics such as sports and health, housing, fads and fashion, the media, the world of work, travel and tourism will be addressed in preparation for the IB language exams
