Mechanics

Girl Power - Mechanics
3 Credits - Girls Only
Prerequsite: None
As a young adult you will need to know how to buy/sell,
register, insure and maintain a vehicle.  This course offers a real life approach to vehicle service.  Girls will have the opportunity to develop confidence about basic car care and maintenance.  This course may be used as a prerequisite to other mechanics courses.

 

Mechanics 10 Introductory
6 Credits
Prerequisite: None
We would like you to explore some options in automotives at LaZerte. You can learn about the mechanical gizmos and gadgets and even when you should be fixin’ not drivin’ your new ride.  Mechanics will help you develop some skills in servicing vehicles and understand how to buy/sell and insure vehicles.

Mechanics 20A Intermediate
5 Credits
Prerequisites:  Mechanics 10 Introductory

Mechanics 20A Intermediate students will build on the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in Mechanics 10 Introductory.  This course is designed to give the student further exploration into the field of automotives.  Concepts covered include lubricating and cooling system, fuel and exhaust, ignition system, manual transmissions and transaxles and a braking project.   Students wishing to choose a career in automotives should register in both Mechanics 20A and 20B Intermediate

Mechanics 20B Intermediate
5 Credits
Prerequisites:  Mechanics 20A Intermediate
Mechanics 20B Intermediate students will build on the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in Mechanics Introductory.  This course is designed to give the student further exploration into the field of automotives.  Concepts covered include the electrical fundamentals, braking systems, drive trains and steering and suspension systems.  Students wishing to choose a career in automotives should register in both Mechanics 20A and 20B Intermediate

Mechanics 30A Advanced
5 Credits
Prerequisites: Mechanics 20A Intermediate or 20B Intermediate
This course is designed as a senior level automotive course.  Considerable shop time will be spent further developing skills through the following modules: engine tune-up, engine replacement and reconditioning, drive train repair, and wheel alignment.  Students wishing to choose a career in automotives should register in both Mechanics 30A and 30B Advanced.

Mechanics 30B Advanced
5 Credits
Prerequisite:  Mechanics 30A Advanced       
This course has been designed for the career oriented students.  Upon completion of the prerequisites the students will be placed at an off campus location to provide a real life experience to the automotive industry.
