Ukrainian Language and Culture 10-3Y

Prerequisite: None
Do you want to learn an international language, expand career and study- abroad opportunities, make new friends, and travel to Ukraine? This Ukrainian course is designed for students with little or no knowledge of Ukrainian. It emphasizes oral communication while developing basic listening, reading and writing skills. The course addresses conversation, grammar, vocabulary building, and writing in a variety of contexts: family, school, shopping, travel, and health. Ukrainian culture is taught as an integral part of the language.

Ukrainian Language and Culture 20-3Y
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Ukrainian Language and Culture 10-3Y or consent of the Department
Want to advance your Ukrainian and experience authentic Ukrainian traditions? In this course you will further develop your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills acquired in Ukrainian 10-3Y with focus on the essential structure of the language and communication.  You will review and expand your grammatical knowledge, practice the accurate use of both written and spoken Ukrainian, enrich your knowledge of the Ukrainian culture through various activities: biographies and poetry readings, debates, field trips, multi-media projects, and cultural celebrations. The course enhances one’s practical language skills in a context of life in modern Ukrainian society. 

Ukrainian Language and Culture 30-3Y

Prerequisite: Ukrainian Language and Culture 20-3Y
Want to study Ukrainian language and experience Ukrainian culture in-depth?  This course aims toward a comprehensive expansion of your knowledge and use of the essential communication structures of the Ukrainian language.  Studies involve various aspects of cultural experience and encourage study of individual areas of interest within various formal and informal contexts.  Ukrainian literature, media, music, and art are an integral part of the course and assist you in advancing your communication and language skills.  You’ll have an opportunity to enrich your cultural knowledge of contemporary and historical Ukraine through readings and discussions based on various texts (biographies, poems, historical materials, videos).

Ukrainian Language Arts 10
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Ukrainian Language Arts 9 or consent of the department
You have already studied Ukrainian? Why not perfect your skills and prepare for careers in international relations, travel, government, law, education or business? This course develops students’ language and culture proficiency through direct communication with school twin counterparts in Ukraine, multi-media projects, presentations, cultural celebrations, contemporary news items, short stories, comics, and Ukrainian poetry. The course enhances your practical language skills in a context of life in modern Ukrainian society.   



Ukrainian Language Arts 20
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Ukrainian Language Arts 10 or consent of the
department.
The Ukrainian Language Arts 20 course will advance your Ukrainian language communication skills and expand your grammatical knowledge.  You will refine the accurate use of both written and spoken Ukrainian within realistic settings and various contexts.  Ukrainian culture and literature are further explored and incorporated into this course.  Ukrainian Language Arts 20 enhances your language and cultural proficiency through direct communication with the counterparts from the school twin in Ukraine, multi-media projects, presentations, cultural celebrations, contemporary news items, short stories, ads, recipes, and Ukrainian poetry. 


Ukrainian Language Arts 30
5 Credits
Prerequisite: Ukrainian Language Arts 20
Our Ukrainian Language Arts 30 course is designed to advance your Ukrainian language communication skills, whether your focus is social, business, diplomatic or legal. 
In Ukrainian Language Arts we do all sorts of fun projects on themes that interest you! A variety of authentic materials (contemporary news items, Internet resources, short stories, ads, recipes, poetry) are used to illustrate grammar, develop practical vocabulary, and serve as the basis for discussion of cultural topics.  You’ll stay connected with Ukrainian culture, the Ukrainian community, and many of your friends.
