FOODS 10 IOP Magazine Challenge

Working with a group of 3 - 5 people, it is your challenge to design a Food Magazine. (yellow sheet) You will be working on this project five or six times during the school year. It will be due at the end of June. Some of this magazine will be original, and some will be "cut and paste" jobs from other magazines and newspapers. Creativity, spelling and neatness count.

All magazines must include the following:

  1. Cover - must include: catchy name cost and date. (It must relate to food; i.e., Cooking Light) 
  2. Table of Contents - include publisher (your names) articles written, recipes etc. Identify every page you did by signing your name(s) at the bottom. Your magazine must have at least 4 pages with your name on them.
  3. One editorial - must be a strong opinion on a food-related subject that is important to you; e.g., "Why it is important to have a balanced diet" or "Why pizza is the world's most popular food."
  4. Five feature articles - must find one food article for each module of study; i.e., Food articles chosen must represent the modules studied this year. Module 1 - Equipment Safety and Sanitation. Module 2 - Baking. Module 3 - Creative Cold Foods. Module 4 - Snacks and Appetizers. Module 5 - Meal Planning.

  5. Creative Writing - one short story based on something that happened to you or could have happened.
  6. Two "Dear ____________" letters about a food problem; i.e.,: "I can't cut an onion without crying. Is there a secret to no tears?" or letters concerning a recipe problem, i.e.; "I can't bake brownies, what's the secret?"

  7. One food Interview. This could be with a friend or family member. "My most unforgettable food crisis or incident."
  8. One poem - must be written by you about food.
  9. Five  movie picks- a movie with food in the title or related in some way to food. i.e.: Au Chocolate; Cooking of Germany, Italy, etc.

  10. Ten music picks - a music group, or song with food in the title.
  11. One puzzle - could be a crossword or a word maze, must be about food. i.e. topics - Nutrition, Canada's Food Guide, Quickbreads, etc.

  12. Advertising - must be at least five ads.
    bulletMost web sites devoted to food or cooking will have ads, but try looking at print sources first (newspapers, magazines).
  13. Two recipes for each module studied.

Note: You should have a minimum of 15 pages in your magazine This assignment could be done completely on the computer or you may do all the work by hand.
