Paralympics: Where Heroes Come

Letter Assignment

Now that you’ve completed the project, do you think that Paralympics be covered by television and radio on CBC, our national broadcaster to be heard.

Here is a quote from the CBC web site:

As Canada's public broadcaster, the CBC provides services in English and in French, and is accountable to all Canadians.

The CBC

bullet tells Canadians' stories reflecting the reality and the diversity of our country
bullet informs Canadians about news and issues of relevance and interest
bullet supports Canadian arts and culture
bullet builds bridges among Canadians, between regions and two linguistic communities.

Make the CBC accountable to you. Write a letter to the Honourable Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, the body to which the CBC must report, and to Mr. Robert Rabinovitch, president of CBC. Respectfully request that the CBC broadcast coverage of the next Paralympic Games.

You will need to give Mrs. Copps and Mr. Rabinovitch excellent reasons why the CBC should broadcast the Paralympics. After all, money is tight and it is very expensive to cover this type of sporting event. In your letter you should be as convincing as possible, selecting material from what you learned about the Paralympics and Paralympians as you worked on this project.

When writing your letter, remember to

bullet be polite and respectful in your tone,
bullet use appropriate language,
bullet convince your audience with logical reasons, and
bullet share some of what you have learned about the power and spirit of the Paralympians.
bulletSave your letter. At a later time you will be mailing it.
